Annual Don’t Walk By Event By Rescue Alliance Reaches Out To Homeless New Yorkers

Volunteers Urgently Needed to Help with Annual “Don’t Walk By” Effort

WHAT:         “Don’t Walk By” is an annual event to help the well-being of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. It’s organized by the Rescue Alliance, a collaboration of faith-based organizations: City Relief, The Salvation Army Greater New York Division, The Bowery Mission, and Hope for New York.

Over the years, “Don’t Walk By” volunteers have canvassed the streets of Manhattan, meeting over 10,000 individuals and inviting them back to a host site where they can get a hot meal, clothing, basic medical care, and connection to ongoing support. Since the pandemic, that effort has significantly slowed down and now it’s being renewed with a powerful new element: free rides. Individuals will be offered a ride with Uber to one of the locations where a to-go meal and a variety of wraparound services will be offered under canopies outdoors.

Rescue Alliance is asking for volunteers to help with this effort.  Volunteers will be required to present either proof of vaccination or a recent negative test during check-in. Volunteers are encouraged to register here:  https://www.rescuealliance.nyc/dontwalkby
