Companies Share What Earth Day 2022 Means To Them, Future Sustainability Goals
Today is Earth Day, an important occasion for those individuals concerned about the state of the environment, and how humankind can improve the state of the planet. Following are some quotes from a number of companies about what Earth Day means to them, and why they feel it is important.
The Strand bookstore in Manhattan said: “Join us in celebrating our global home! 20% of sales will benefit March for Science NYC.
This month we are celebrating Earth Day with our charitable partner March for Science NYC. Our collection of books reflects how to not only care for the plant, but to respect it, as well. That’s why we are donating 20% of proceeds from this collection to help March for Science NYC, open access of scientific information to the general public, promote science for the common good and the preservation of an informed democracy to protect human and environmental rights.”
From the editor of National Geographic magazine, David Brindley: “When someone can’t see the big picture because they’re so focused on the details, we say they can’t see the forest for the trees. To commemorate Earth Day, we’re focusing on the big picture by publishing a special issue on saving forests.
Today forests cover one-third of Earth’s land surface and help keep our world in balance. In fact, they’re the “lungs” of the planet, drawing in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen. They provide habitat for countless species. And in a warming world, they’re our best chance for survival.
Yet our forests are at risk as extreme conditions related to climate change kill trees worldwide.
But it’s not too late to do something. In an encouraging sign, last fall more than a hundred world leaders promised to end global deforestation by 2030.”
Fruit of the Loom promises, in their Fruitful Futures sustainability plan: “For over 100 years, we have made the essential items people need to fulfill their potential. From underwear to basketballs, our essentials help win the day or the game. And we know that our continued commitment to people and our planet is an integral part of being here for the next 100 years.
Fruitful Futures is our sustainability plan to deliver essential goods fit for our changing world. It connects our brands and our people in purposeful work across three commitments: People-Centric, Planet-Conscious and Product Authenticity.”
Tierra Farm, a natural products supplier, also celebrates Earth Day: “At Tierra Farm, we want to make every day Earth Day! Tierra Farm is working to fulfill our mission of supplying you righteous food with natural integrity by ditching plastic once and for all. The new compostable packaging you’ll find on over 100 of our products can be dumped directly into your home bin. These environmentally-engineered pouches can now take their natural place in our sustainable cycle of food growth, production, and biodegradation.
Tierra Farm celebrates Earth Day’s power to inspire the communal support needed to sustain our world. But that global response depends on the individual actions that can protect the planet we call home. The Natural Resource Defense Council notes that starting a home compost bin is one way to make Earth Day count this year. (For an instant primer on just how much you can throw in to help out, take a look at the Conservation Law Foundation’s Composting Cheat Sheet.)
We hope this Earth Day dawns to find more companies rethinking what they wrap with trash and more people asking for the sustainable products they deserve. Because digging in together is our best chance for creating the cleaner planet that enriches us all”
High Country Gardens reminds us of the importance of planting a sustainable garden: “Celebrate Earth Day – Plant A Sustainable Garden
Are you adding a few new plants, converting some high maintenance lawn to low care alternatives, or beginning a new habitat-friendly garden makeover? Using sustainable principles to guide you will ultimately give you a healthy garden that will require less care as it becomes more resilient.”
Earth Day acts as a reminder that there are consequences to actions, both individual and collective, and that everyone can play a part in helping the environment.
