Curtis Sliwa Offers Solutions To Rising NYC Crime Rates

Mayor Eric Adams’ approval rating has dropped on nearly all issues — including public safety, which he has made the top priority of his administration, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

A majority of Big Apple voters — 54% — now disapprove of Adams’ handling of crimeaccording to a new Quinnipiac poll.

Violent crime has mostly increased during Adams’ 4 months in office, reports the Post.

Curtis Sliwa’s statement
NYC residents no longer believe that Mayor Eric Adams will be able to tame the rising crime in the streets and subways of NYC.

Under Adams, who called himself the Law and Order Mayor, crime is up overall by 40 %. It has risen by 75% in the subway, and shoplifting has soared to 81%.

The Crime Wave shows no sign of slowing down as we enter the summer months. But some things can be done immediately to reverse this trend.

1). The NYC Police Budget was cut by a Billion dollars in 2020. Since there has been an increase in retirements, the patrolling force of NYPD officers is down to 34,000.  Police need an additional 6,000 cops to stop the crime increase.

2). Police in the subways must begin to patrol up and down the moving trains. They do not do that now.

3). There are 325 housing projects in NYCHA. The NYPD must resume their vertical patrols up and down the stairwells of the housing complexes.

4). The NYPD must return the anti-crime unit that had 600 undercover members who would preemptively do jump-outs and selectively use stop and frisk in known gang areas.

5). The mayor suggested installing metal detectors in the subway system. That is not a workable idea. Instead, the MTA needs to install a camera in each of the 6,200 subway cars where many crimes occur.

6).  The Mayor has become the “Swagger Man” without a comprehensive anti-crime plan.

In just the last 2 weeks, as crime continues to soar throughout the 5 Boros, The Guardian Angels have been invited to patrol Bay Ridge, Brooklyn by Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, and just this week, they have been invited to patrol Forest Hills, Queens.

In 43 years of existence, the Guardian Angels have never been invited to patrol Bay Ridge or Forest Hills.
