Hundreds Of NY Kids Heading To Star Lake Summer Camp Next Week
Stapleton kids are returning to The Salvation Army Greater NY’s Star Lake Summer Camp after a two-year hiatus due to Covid 19
Summer camp is back in session! During the next few weeks, hundreds of kids from the NY area, including Stapleton, will be packing their bathing suits and hopping onto the bus for The Salvation Army’s summer camp. For nearly a century (99 years!), The Salvation Army has been giving children a summer to remember at Star Lake Camp in Bloomingdale, NJ. For most, it’s their first chance to jump in a lake, give rock climbing a try, learn archery, and sleep under the stars.
For 99 years, hundreds of NY kids, many of whom rarely get to leave home, have headed off to Star Lake Camp, a beautiful sleepaway camp with all the activities and friendships that transform children’s lives. That door briefly closed when COVID hit, but now, campers are fully returning for the first time in two years to make new friends, reconnect with old friends, learn new skills, and be nurtured by caring camp counselors and role models.
Besides jumping in the lake, campers can take advantage of numerous programs and activities that Star Lake has to offer. On Monday, July 11, children from Stapleton will be leaving for a week of Adventure Camp, and on July 25, more kids will be going to Sports Camp.
Send off will be at the Salvation Army Stapleton Corps Community Center
15 Broad St, Staten Island, NY
Monday, July 11, bus departure is at 7:00am
Monday, July 25, bus departure is at 7:00am
DETAILS of the camp: Located on a serene lake in Bloomingdale, NJ, Star Lake Camp has hosted thousands of campers since its opening in 1923. Made possible by The Salvation Army Greater New York Division, NY kids experience life in the rural outdoors and come home with a new perspective on their lives and what is possible.
