This week’s crushing heat wave is nothing short of an emergency for thousands of New Yorkers, particularly seniors who don’t have access to air conditioning and may be unable to leave their apartments. The Salvation Army Greater New York has teamed up with the New York City Emergency Management to offer neighborhood Cooling Centers throughout the city, on standby now from Monday July 18, 2022 – Thursday July 21, 2022.

Cooling Centers are open, free, and welcome to all at 8 Salvation Army Corps throughout the city.

If you’re in NYC and in need of a place to cool off and get some cold water during this heat wave, the following community centers are open as cooling centers: Bronx Tremont, Bronx Citadel, Ridgewood Citadel, Jamaica Citadel, Bay Ridge, Bedford Temple, and Stapleton.
