Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season, which will be a grim one for thousands of New Yorkers. Inflation, evictions, Covid and more are making life even more difficult for those who struggle to make ends meet. While the Thanksgiving holiday has always been a day when we give thanks for all we have, for some families, sadly, it is a day when putting food on the table can be a challenge.

And yet there are individuals who step up at a time like this and dig deep to give generously to others. This year, local business owner Bob Jesberger, teamed up with The Salvation Army Greater New York and donated over $65,000 to purchase thousands of meals just in time for Thanksgiving. With turkeys in short supply at very expensive prices this year, Jesberger got creative and hosted a “Chickens & Fixins” event instead – supplying meals to 2,261 families throughout New York.

Jesberger is the owner of Mid Island Collision Centers, based in Rockville Centre.

“We applaud and thank Bob Jesberger for making a difference in the lives of so many New York families,” said Major Marcus Jugenheimer, General Secretary of The Salvation Army of Greater New York.  “Many people take sitting down with loved ones to enjoy a holiday meal on Thanksgiving for granted. Bob realizes this is not the case and stepped up to do something about it. He’s a model for businesses and people in New York who can give during the holiday season and throughout the year.
