The Staten Island Conservative Party wishes a very special Happy 100th Birthday to the Honorable James L. Buckley, who was successfully elected to the United States Senate in 1970 as a registered member of the New York State Conservative Party. Senator Buckley would later serve in the State Department during the Reagan administration before being successfully nominated by President Reagan as a Justice of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. As such, Justice Buckley has served with distinction in all three branches of the federal government.

Earlier this year, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis introduced a bill to name the Staten Island unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area as the “Senator James L. Buckley Seashore.” We appreciate her continued efforts to advance this most worthy tribute. The bill may be tracked at https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/933?s=1&r=9.
