Free Turkey Giveaway Today By Sen. Gillibrand in Brooklyn
SENATOR GILLIBRAND, STATE SENATOR MYRIE, BROOKLYN DA GONZALEZ TO HAND OUT THANKSGIVING TURKEYS TO THOSE IN NEED
New York, NY – Today, November 18th, 2023 at 1:30 PM: More than 44 million people in the United States live in households that are food insecure, with roughly 2.9 million people in New York relying on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The expectation to put food on the table during the holidays is often stressful and a financial strain for families experiencing food insecurity. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, and Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez will hand out Thanksgiving turkeys to New Yorkers in need at an outdoor block party in Brooklyn this Saturday.
Senator Gillibrand is committed to combating hunger in New York. Earlier this year, Senator Gillibrand unveiled her recipe for improving nutrition and addressing food insecurity. As a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Gillibrand will be fighting to improve SNAP benefits, access to fresh produce at food banks, and the Healthy Food Financing Initiative in the upcoming Farm Bill.
