Limitless Monday – Write your own compelling life story

A compelling story in a book is similar to one in life. A good story has to have a hero who is defective in some way. There also has to be a monumental challenge which the hero must overcome, changing his character along the way to be a better version of his original self.

I was reading a book called A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, by Donald Miller, the other day. Donald is a writer who pens great stories, but realizes his life isn’t much of a story itself. It lacks adventure, meaning, and purpose. So he decides to change all that by firstly finding a purpose, and then embarking on a series of adventures such as cycling across the US.

The reason why I bring this subject up on another Monday morning is that this is as good a Monday as any to ask yourself: How is your story looking? Is it a compelling one? Does it lack any story line, or in self-help speak, does it lack purpose? Is your story about as dull as the plot in a dictionary?

It is never too late to change your story, just as Donald Miller discovered. Embarking on an adventure is a great start. Decide today if your story is one which someone would have trouble putting down or one which requires an infusion of excitement.

If you are truthful with yourself and come to the realization that your life lacks direction, purpose, and excitement, then make today the day you do something about it, anything that will change your story.

Remember you are the hero. Hero’s don’t sit around playing video games all day or watching cat videos. They get out into the world and attempt to change it. As you embark on a mission to change the world in some small way you will also change.

Maybe you are parochial, possibly ignorant, and most likely mission-less; perhaps you are none of these and are simply tired of your old story and yearn for a new one. No matter your situation, once you choose to rewrite your story, you will be forever changed.

Happy Monday!
