The 26th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 27, 2024 – 10AM to 2PM

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

The program is described on their website as follows: “The mission of DEA’s Diversion Control Division is to prevent, detect, and investigate the diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals and listed chemicals from legitimate sources while ensuring an adequate and uninterrupted supply for legitimate medical, commercial, and scientific needs.”

On Friday, April 26th, 2024 at 2:00PM, District Attorney Michael E. McMahon will hold a press conference at Super Health Pharmacy located at 6390 Amboy Road, Staten Island, New York 10309 alongside leaders from the NYPD, the Staten Island Borough President’ s Office, and local treatment, recovery, and community health organizations in anticipation of Saturday’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

District Attorney McMahon will provide Staten Islanders with information regarding safe, convenient, and environmentally friendly means of disposing of unwanted or expired prescription drugs through the community “MedSafe”program run by his office. In addition, District Attorney McMahon will share an overview of the drug and overdose crisis on Staten Island, and invite local partners to highlight efforts underway to help those in the throes of addiction illness.
