Staten Island’s Kids Forgotten In City’s New “No Kid Hungry” Meal Food Truck Campaign Delivering Meals In Other Boroughs

Share

Staten Island and Queens children who can’t get to school locations for meals are on their own this summer as the food truck program is only delivering in three boroughs. In many instances, a school lunch meal is the only meal a low income student will get on any given day which is why school lunch is essential, both during the school year and over the summer.

Editor’s note: The petition at the link below shares the following info about the program: “The campaign “No Kid Hungry,” in partnership with New York City Public Schools, has free summer meals food trucks delivering free meals in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, but not in Staten Island and Queens. The goal of “No Kid Hungry” is to ensure that no child in the city goes hungry. The initiative aims to specifically target areas which historically have a low participation rate in the food-programs at physical locations. According to Feeding America, 1 in 6 children in the U.S. may face hunger. With the presence of these free summer meals food trucks, the goal is to alleviate this burden and provide our children with the necessary nutrition they need to thrive. There are currently food trucks in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn, but no trucks in Queens and Staten Island.”

Dear SI Hunger Task Force Members and Allies,

Please sign this petition.  Take it to your family, friends, place of worship, palace of work…

Queens and Staten Island are the only boroughs without these meals for our kids.

Our children suffer hunger just like the rest of our city and we need this service here, now.

Thank you for signing and reaching out to others!
