Convicted 9/11 Masterminds Should Be Punished For Their Crimes – Plea Deal Unacceptable: Local Politicians

Rep. Malliotakis and BP Fossella weigh in on plea deal offered to September 11th convicted masterminds.
Editor’s note: Staten Islander News has previously published information relating to how those affected by 9/11, even if they weren’t first responders, can receive assistance for health conditions that may be attributable to the tragedy. BP Fossella also commented on vandalism to the 9/11 memorial.
It may also be noted that the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church both condemn the death penalty as being inconsistent with Christian values, as reported by Death Penalty Info:

On capital punishment, Bartholomew [patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church]  said ‘[t]he attitude of a society toward the death penalty is an indicator of its cultural orientation and consideration of human dignity.’ He said, ‘[t]he worthy system of European constitutional culture, of which one of the fundamental pillars is the idea of love as an expression of its Christian beliefs, requires us to consider that every man must be given the possibility of repentance and improvement, even if he has been condemned for the worst crime.’‘It is therefore a logical and moral consequence that one who condemns war also should reject the death penalty,’ the patriarch said.”

A Statement from Borough President Vito Fossella on Plea Deal for 9-11 Mastermind Terrorist
Almost 23 years ago, 2,976 innocent people — 2,976 — were murdered on September 11th, 2001. Staten Island suffered, dramatically. More Americans died on 9-11 than died at Pearl Harbor. World War II was over less than 4 years later. Yet, here we are almost 23 years later, as we are still trying to decide what to do with the biggest murderers in American history.
And, to this day, the death count continues to grow from 9-11 related illnesses. The count is so great that the Postcards Memorial, which honors 9-11 victims, in St. George is running out of space to add the names of the dead.
Yet, the masterminds of those attacks are, somehow, still alive in U.S. custody. To add insult to injury, the murderers of all those innocent people were offered a plea to avoid the death penalty for their unconscionable acts.
Today, it seems like that deal may be off the table.  Sadly, it seems more because of a political backlash at the insanity of the agreement, than the principles of justice. These barbarians should not be eating three meals a day. They should not be breathing fresh air. They should not be negotiating with our government and be offered a plea deal for anything. They should be given the ultimate punishment for what they did to our country, our neighbors, our friends, and our families.

Malliotakis on Reversal of Pre-Trial Agreement for 9/11 Terrorists

“The death penalty must be pursued and trial date set so justice can be served.

(NEW YORK, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) released the following statement on the Biden-Harris Administration’s reversal of a pre-trial agreement made earlier this week with 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his associates:

“While we’re pleased to hear that Secretary Austin has withdrawn this unacceptable plea deal, the fact remains that it has been 23 years since the worst terrorist attack on American soil, and the families of 9/11 victims, the first responders still suffering and dying today, and all Americans, deserve justice. That begins with pursuing the death penalty and immediately setting a trial date so these terrorist monsters can be held accountable for their crimes against humanity. I’m planning to stand with 9/11 families, first responders and police unions on Monday to demand that the Biden-Harris Administration take action to see that justice is finally served.”

Last year, Malliotakis joined Texas Senator Ted Cruz in writing to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urging the Department of Defense to scrap any possibility for a plea deal with 9/11 terrorists that takes the death penalty off the table.
