Brooklyn Community Board Positions Now Open: Entry Level Into Municipal Government
Editor’s note: The employment opportunity described below includes membership in the city’s union contract. This is similar to the one that retirees who took the city to court for healthcare benefits are members of.
Apply by Tue Oct 15 – NYC Community District Offices are a unique, entry-level, union-protected on-ramp to City government careers. We have City Charter-defined relationships with City agencies (and several State agencies), so it’s a great place to learn about every aspect of local government. Former employees have gone on to roles at Borough Hall, Dept. of Buildings, NYC Economic Development Corporation, Dept. of Housing Preservation & Development, and Dept. of Transportation.

Brooklyn Community Board No. 2
Brooklyn Community District 2 is one of 59 geographically exclusive, independent City agencies that serve as the most local form of representative government in NYC. Each District is managed by a small City staff, and represented by a Board of 50 community volunteers appointed by their Borough President and City Council Members. Community boards have a variety of responsibilities, including local review of land use and zoning issues, assessing community needs, addressing community concerns, and preparing an annual Statement of District Needs and Budget Requests. Brooklyn Community District 2 includes: Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Clinton Hill, DUMBO, Fort Greene, Fulton Ferry, Navy Yard, and Vinegar Hill.
