Senator Scarcella-Spanton Allocates $80,000 in Capital Funding for NYPD to Enhance Community Safety

Editor’s note: Earlier this year, the senator secured $100K for the district attorney’s office for investigative cameras.

Staten Island, NY – Senator Scarcella-Spanton announced $80,000 in capital funding for the installation of Argus cameras in the area of the 120th Police Precinct. This aims to bolster safety and security in the surrounding community by enhancing crime monitoring capabilities.

The Argus cameras will be strategically placed around the area to provide real-time surveillance, allowing law enforcement to effectively monitor and respond to criminal activity– underscoring Senator Scarcella-Spanton’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of her constituents.

“Public safety remains a top priority for this community, and I am committed to doing everything I can as a state senator to make sure my constituents feel safe,” said Senator Scarcella-Spanton.

“By investing in these Argus cameras, we are taking a proactive step towards monitoring crime and keeping our neighborhoods secure. These cameras are a valuable tool for the 120 Precinct, and I am happy that this funding will help them deter crime and respond quickly to incidents in real time.”

“In today’s world, nothing plays a bigger role in my mind than video footage,” said District Attorney Michael McMahon. “Video evidence really makes the difference for so many cases and whether or not we will have a successful prosecution. The Argus cameras the Senator is gifting will go a long way in keeping the community stronger and safer. These are the tools NYPD Deputy Inspector Waldhelm and his team need to continue to drive down crime numbers on Staten Island and keep our community safe. I thank Senator Scarcella-Spanton for this significant and important investment in our borough’s public safety and for her unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all Staten Islanders.”

“I want to thank Senator Scarcella-Spanton for securing the funding for these cameras as they are invaluable. The high definition video footage is instrumental for our detectives, and allows us to deploy resources rapidly when needed. We will continue to use them to drive down crime in the North Shore of Staten Island,” said Deputy Inspector & Commanding Officer Eric Waldhelm.
