No One Wants To Be Alone During Festive Holiday Season: Help LGBTQIA+ Community Members Without Accepting Families With “Home” for The Holidays Sponsorship at The Pride Center of Staten Island
Let’s Bring “Home” To The Holidays for the LGBTQIA+ Communities and Families!
Editor’s note: On Christmas Day last year, the Pride Center of Staten Island wished everyone a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year. We also covered their call for donations on Giving Tuesday, which is celebrated worldwide as a special day to give to charities in advance of the official beginning of the holiday season. Check back tomorrow to learn about how the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Staten Island will FINALLY include the LGBTQIA+ community in its marching ranks.
No one wants to be alone, or feel excluded, in celebrating the holidays while the world continues to do so without them. So before you start your holiday shopping, please take the time to add someone from our community to your list this year. You can bring the “Home” to the holidays for them by sponsoring a youth or senior LGBTQIA+ individual for our Home for the Holidays Brunch Event, or provide a donation /sponsorship that will continue the good work and free services we provide for the community.
Many Youth and Seniors are unable to fully celebrate the Holidays for various reasons. Holidays are particularly difficult as it may serve as a reminder of the loss and the rejection from their families. Homelessness, financial hardships, targeted violence/ hate, and suicidal thoughts affect LGBTQIA+ youth and seniors profoundly, and the holidays can be particularly difficult to navigate while alone.
You can make a difference in someone’s life this year. Thanks to you, this year there will at least be one gift under the tree, a warm meal in someone’s belly, and companionship to share the holiday joy with. Make it a true Happy Holiday with your generosity! Please watch the video and click the link below to see all the opportunities on how you can help bring “Home” to someone in need this year.
