Staten Island Resident Chosen For Star 99.1 / Fellowship Home Loans Christmas Wish Award

We at STAR 99.1 FM, in partnership with Mike & Brian from Fellowship Home Loans, host a campaign every year leading up to the holiday season called “Christmas Wish”, where entrants put in something meaningful they’re looking to get for Christmas. A “Wish” they would like granted for the holidays. Through STAR‘s partnership with Fellowship Home Loans, we feel blessed to have been able to sponsor hundreds of these wishes over the years, each one as special as the next.

This year, one of those Wish requests came from a Staten Island resident, Aida. Through a mixed set of life circumstances, she has two of her adult daughters and two of her grandchildren living with her. After some great financial hardship, she was close to losing her home and her vehicle, utilities were being shut off, and there was very little money to even have food in their home. And Aida’s wish? Just to be able to have a proper Thanksgiving meal for her family, so they can forget all their troubles and “exhale” for just one night.

After speaking with Aida, her story really touched our hearts — which is why we chose her as one of our Christmas Wish winners. On a call with Skip and Kristen from the STAR Morning Show, and Mike and Brian from Fellowship Home Loans, we were able to give Aida the good news — that she had been chosen as one of our Christmas Wish recipients. And not only were we going to gift her a full Thanksgiving meal for her family of five (5), but also $500 to use on groceries for her and her family. After receiving her gift, Aida said she felt like “a brick building was lifted off [her] back”, and they had the most fun grocery shopping together. Aida and her family opted to share the holiday at home together, rather than out at a restaurant, which ended up being a perfect way for them to celebrate. Some of the other wishes we granted this year included money towards a new-used car for a community prayer warrior needing transport (nominated by her landlord); tickets to an Atlanta Falcons NFL game for a 13-year-old, wheelchair-bound superfan (nominated by his mom); and a new wheelchair for a 16-year-old with hypermobility with dreams of getting into adaptive athletics (nominated by her dad). We feel so blessed to have been able to grant these wishes for our listeners, and it also could not be possible without the financial support from Mike and Brian of Fellowship Home Loans.
