In NYC: Alan Bartus New York Trio Concert At Austrian Cultural Forum – Modern Jazz
Editor’s note: Sean Fitzpatrick was able to attend the Alan Bartus concert at the Austrian Cultural Forum.
It’s spring in New York City — and we are very excited to announce a month full of music, art and ideas at the ACFNY.
We kick things off with the Haydn Chamber Ensemble, who are serving up “Made in Austria” — a time-traveling mix of Mozart, Schubert, and contemporary flair (Johanna Doderer is in the mix). Then it’s time for Jazz: Alan Bartus brings his NYC-honed sound to the Forum, proving that deep roots can still shake the ground.
Want to get existential with a puppet? AI & I pairs an anarchic Punch-bot with top minds from Johannes Kepler University Linz and Columbia Law for a night that’s equal parts science, theater, and “wait, should I be afraid of my toaster?”
Meanwhile, the Ernst Caramelle: two dots one line. exhibition opens May 6 and transforms our building into a playground of conceptual wonder — with sun pieces, video, and a custom intervention that gets along suspiciously well with our famously funky architecture.
Come see what spring sounds, looks, and thinks like — only at the ACFNY.
Your ACFNY Team.

About the concert
The upcoming album was composed during Bartus’s time in New York, where he has been living, studying, and making his mark on the jazz scene. This music reflects the journey of a young artist carving his path in one of the world’s most dynamic musical landscapes. A semi-finalist in the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Piano Competition 2023, Bartus is recognized as one of the most exciting jazz pianists of his generation.
