JAG Physical Therapy and Staten Island FerryHawks Renew Longstanding Partnership, With Community Events, Donations To Local Groups

The following questions were answered by JAG Physical Therapy about this renewed partnership:

Does JAG also participate in any of the fundraising or donation activities that the FerryHawks host, such as the bike donation giveaway or the food bank partnerships?

Throughout our partnership, we’ve teamed up with the FerryHawks for different community events. For example, we’ve jointly held “Sandlot Night,” where JAG donated tickets to the athletes and families of the Anthony Varvaro Sandlot Summer League to watch the FerryHawks play and celebrate the summer baseball season. Our teams at JAG Physical Therapy and the FerryHawks are both very community-minded, and we look forward to more opportunities in the future to give back to Staten Island!

What have been the benefits of the partnership so far to the team, and what are the expected benefits in the coming season?  Examples could include reduced injuries, faster recovery times, longer playing-life, etc.

JAG Physical Therapy is the official physical therapy and athletic training partner of the Staten Island FerryHawks, which yields great benefits to the team. Having a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) on-site with the FerryHawks in their day-to-day operations allows for immediate evaluation and early identification of injuries, often before they become more serious. This means players can begin treatment right away, which leads to quicker recovery times and more consistent time on the field. Having in-house care streamlines the recovery process and fosters stronger relationships and trust between the players and the medical staff.  The team, coaching staff, fans and their families also have fast-track access to any of JAG Physical Therapy’s nine locations throughout the island.

Looking ahead, the continued presence of an athletic trainer is expected to enhance injury prevention efforts through individualized programs, dynamic warm-ups, and education on proper mechanics and workload management. Ultimately, this proactive approach supports player longevity, performance consistency, and overall team success.

Does JAG’s practice offer surgical or pharmaceutical pain management interventions to patients, or is it focused on manual and exercise therapy (where those needing surgery are referred to local surgeons)?

JAG Physical Therapy does not offer surgical or pharmaceutical pain management interventions. We offer a wide range of specialized physical and occupational therapy services – just a small example of our wide range of services include pre- and post-operative therapy, spine rehabilitation, slip and fall prevention, concussion treatment and return-to-play clearance, vestibular therapy, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) therapy, and many more. We are also one of the first providers in the Northeast to offer the BEAR® Implant, a major breakthrough in treating ACL tears – one of the most common injuries in the U.S. annually – without needing surgical intervention.

Oftentimes we find that physical therapy interventions can be used in lieu of more invasive procedures like surgery or injections to effectively treat certain conditions, or to help people recover from injuries. It can also be an effective pain management tool for people of all ages. We recommend that patients interested in exploring these types of therapies ask their physician if physical therapy may be a good option for them. Many people aren’t aware that in New York, you don’t need a referral to visit a physical therapist who’s been practicing for three or more years, so we also encourage interested patients to contact us and we can refer them to the right clinic near them.
