Staten Island FerryHawks Announce Leadership Change

John Catsimatidis Appointed Interim CEO, Succeeding Eric Schuffler

Staten Island, NY – The Staten Island FerryHawks today announced that John Catsimatidis has been appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Catsimatidis succeeds Eric Schuffler, who served as CEO since the team’s founding and recently stepped down.
Catsimatidis brings decades of business leadership, media ownership, and civic engagement to the FerryHawks organization. As Interim CEO, he will oversee day-to-day operations and guide the team into its next phase of growth, with a focus on competitive excellence, financial stability, and long-term development of the ballpark as a premier regional destination.
“I will do whatever is necessary to take the team forward and upward,” said Catsimatidis. “I love Staten Island — it was one of the boroughs I won when I ran for Mayor in 2013 — and I have always admired the people here. My dream is to create not only a great, competitive baseball team, but an entertainment center for Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and New Jersey — welcoming baseball, soccer, music, and major community events.”
Catsimatidis noted that his company, WABC Radio, may explore opportunities for participation and expanded media engagement with the organization. He will be assisted by Gary Perone, Executive Vice President and General Manager, who will help facilitate operational continuity during this transition.
Stadium Update
Last week, a major water pipe servicing the Empire Outlets area burst, resulting in flooding at the stadium and surrounding facilities. The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the City of New York were immediately notified. All responsible parties have been engaged, and repairs are moving forward at an accelerated pace.
“We are working closely with the Mayor of New York, the City of New York, the NYC Economic Development Corporation, the Borough President, and our elected officials to ensure this venue remains a winner for Staten Island,” Catsimatidis added.
