Editor’s note: You can see last year’s Daddy Daughter Dance coverage here.
The Star Morning Show has been hosting a new contest honoring local kids doing exceptional things. Anyone can enter a kid to be chosen for this, and it is called “Superstar Kid of the Week.” Exceptional kids can be nominated through their website. See below for a little bit of info about the contest:
We asked: Do you also have any information for the Kid of the Week program that you mentioned on the morning show? Is there a way for people to enter to nominate someone, and is it just open to kids that are local?
Skip, the morning show host, had this to say: “It’s really open to any kid.” And a spokesperson for the radio station elaborated: “Anyone can nominate their superstar kid at https://pillarmedia.com/superstar-kid-of-the-week/“
This is somewhat reminiscent of Disney’s Citizen Kid, which is about kids from all around the country who are doing exceptional things. Do you know a local kid who has started helping the homeless, volunteered at a soup kitchen, helped an elderly person at a nursing home, or anything else that makes them exceptional? Nominate them for the contest, and you might hear about them on the radio.
Celebrating father-daughter bonds: highlights from STAR 99.1’s Enchanted Evening
SOMERSET, N.J.— More than 400 dad and daughter duos gathered at Pines Manor on Aug. 22 for the fourth annual Enchanted Evening by STAR 99.1 (WAWZ) to grow and strengthen their bond through music, activities and intentional time together.
The sold-out daddy daughter dance invited dads, father figures, and their daughters to an evening designed to celebrate one of life’s most formative relationships while creating memories they’ll cherish for years to come.
Guests received bingo cards to guide them through a variety of activities, including flower crown creation, hat decorating, building brick flower making, meet-and-greets with princesses, photo booths (including a 360-degree video booth) and more.
Skip Mahaffey from the STAR Morning Show and Chad Mitchell from Afternoons on STAR joined the celebration, which also included a devotional during dinner led by Pastor Chris Durkin from Colts Neck Community Church.
“This is an event I am so proud to be a part of,” said Alanna Kroening, STAR 99.1 promotions and events coordinator. “Seeing the way God moves through the ballroom—the smiles on each daughter’s face and the childlike joy coming from dads—and through the event planning process, is nothing short of miraculous. It’s truly the best night of the year, and it’s something we—myself, our volunteer team (some of which includes my family and friends) and vendors—look forward to just as much as our guests do. All glory to God for making this possible year after year.”
Many attendees shared that this was their fourth year returning to the event. One family said they now invite friends and extended family members to share in the tradition after attending for the first time in 2023.
This event was made possible thanks to local sponsors Luxury Bath NJPA and Options for Her. A special thanks to the STAR 99.1 ALL STAR Volunteer Team and Pillar Media staff members who helped make this a night to remember.
