From the press release by YouTube from the YouTube official blog:
A sunny day is coming to YouTube: Our expanded partnership with Sesame Street
Today, more families than ever before gather around the TV screen to watch YouTube. That’s why Youtube is excited to announce an expanded partnership with Sesame Street to bring more of the beloved content to families who are tuning in. In the past year, Sesame Street’s YouTube channels garnered more than 5B views, a 130% increase year over year. For Sesame Street fans, this partnership is a natural fit—over half of the official channel’s YouTube watch time already happens on connected TV screens.
Beginning in January 2026, YouTube will have the largest digital library of Sesame Street content, with hundreds of full episodes coming to the platform. Alongside this collection of episodes, Sesame Street will continue to post content created especially for the YouTube audience, all featuring the iconic and lovable Muppets of Sesame Street.
As part of the expanded partnership, Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, will draw upon their 50+ years of developing research-driven, curriculum-backed children’s media to lead a series of workshops with YouTube creators to share best practices on how to create content that is entertaining while also promoting learning.
This partnership is another example of how we’re bringing everything families want to watch together in one place. On YouTube and YouTube Kids, fan favorites like Sesame Street live right alongside Ms. Rachel, Doggyland and Gabby’s Dollhouse, giving families a single destination for all the content they love. We are excited to bring these stories to families around the world.
From the Animation Magazine article from which we first learned of this partnership:
Earlier this year, Netflix scooped up rights to premiere new episodes of Sesame Street as well as approximately 90 hours of library episodes in a deal which also granted same-day premiere rights to PBS. The agreement takes effect in November with the launch of Season 56, which will introduce a reimagined format for the show as well as a new animated segment series, Tales from 123.
Netflix brough the lovable muppets and monsters of Sesame Street into its neighborhood after the show’s deal with Max (HBO Max) was dropped in December 2024. The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer has been shedding its animation and kids content since its $43 billion merger in 2022. New episodes of Sesame Street had premiered on HBO since 2016, ahead of their release on pubcaster PBS, and the show’s five-year deal with HBO Max was inked in 2019
