Limitless Monday: Perils of Overthinking
Limitless Monday – The perils of overthinking
Overthinking is a common problem: agonizing over matters that a wise person would settle rapidly with relative ease.
The optimal outcome when contemplating a problem or challenge is to conclude your thought process with a solution. The next step is implementing the solution without delay. The longer you take to implement a solution, the more you continue to think about the problem. Also, the longer you search for a solution, the longer you will contemplate the problem.
There is a solution to every problem, your job is to quickly find it, act, and move on. Procrastination is not an option. It leads to inaction and wasted brain power – brain power that could be better used solving other problems or for much needed creative thinking.
The act of moving on is often overlooked. Returning to the same problem once you have made a decision is a form of procrastination. It will delay you taking any action and place you in a never ending loop. The person who can’t move on from a relationship, a failed business venture, or a set back of any kind will be unable to learn from these experiences. They will stagnate rather than thrive.
Someone who overthinks can best be described as a flip-flop. They will never amount to much unless they change their ways. Do you think the most successful people of our age spend countless hours thinking about the same problem? No; they make quick decisions. If the decision ends up being wrong, they make another one and act fast on that too.
When someone says, “I am overthinking this,” it’s a clear sign they can be saved. They recognize the problem. Their next step is to break that habit. From today, stop overthinking. Begin thinking like a winner not a loser.
Happy Monday!
