Moment Of Contact: When Humans Interacted With / Saw Up-Close Non-Human Intelligence (Aliens)

We have previously covered the hearing chaired by Senator Gillibrand about non-human intelligence, specifically UAPs (formerly known as UFOs). 

Moment of Contact is a deep dive into the Roswell-like crash and retrieval that occurred in Brazil in 1993.

In the small town of Varginha in Brazil, the UFO crash in the 90s is kind of their MO. They have a sculpture of a flying saucer in their town, and when the producers of this documentary stood on a street corner holding a sign asking if anyone knew about the crash, lots of people did. It was very surreal, almost like it happened yesterday rather than decades ago. It was undoubtedly more so for Mr. Fox and his team.

There is a lot of new info in this documentary that many Americans aren’t aware of, such as that members of Congress have been provided the proof sufficient to satisfy them of the truth of the whistle-blower testimonies, while the public is not privy to that information. So after the public hearings, there were private top-secret meetings with those congressmen who have the top level security clearances needed to discuss this information. So while it isn’t available to us, it may be presumed that their statements are true. No member of congress thus briefed left that room (called a SCIF) and said that the testimonies were questionable.

While Mr. Fox did meet with an official with top secret clearance, since he doesn’t possess this himself, the meeting didn’t cover much. There isn’t much they can say.

And if you, as an American, don’t understand why, there are some excellent representations of the reasons in fictional movies, particularly by someone who also had seen things he couldn’t discuss with the public: Carl Sagan. In his movie, Contact, he describes the issue beautifully.

In that film, the government didn’t keep aliens secret. They publicized their intention to build a machine to other worldly specifications, and an evangelical Christian staged protests at the construction site. However, on the date of the unveiling of the ship, he blended in with the officials there and was able to set off bombs he had strapped to himself. That’s how crazy he was, and it isn’t far-fetched that someone in our modern world could be just as crazy.

Another great representation of this is the reminder of humanity’s primitiveness mentally overall as a social group (regardless of individual predispositions due to ‘herd mentality’) detailed in Disney’s Lilo and Stitch. As the alien in charge of rebuilding Earth’s endangered mosquito population (Agent Pleakley) responds when the head of the Galactic Federation asks why they can’t simply land a space ship there, he says, “Well, that’d be a bad idea! These are extremely simple creatures, miss. Landing there would create mass mayhem and planet wide panic!”

That, too, should give you an idea of why any alien life forms there have been are kept top secret. While these are movie examples, they are arguably correct. People are afraid of things that are new or foreign to their understanding, and non-human intelligence for many would be a bridge too far. If all the files were to be suddenly released, there just might be a worldwide panic.

Overall, this was an excellent documentary, if a bit overly dramatic. The music building to a crescendo where it’s not a mind blowing revelation was a bit odd. The movie could have just as easily been a bit shorter, because two hours is a long time. But it is highly recommended, and I would give it five stars. It’s streaming now everywhere on several different platforms.
