Spring-Cleaning Blitz: BP Fossella, Local Agencies Announce Major Cleanup Efforts Across Staten Island
Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella will announce a “Spring-Cleaning Blitz” on Staten Island, aimed at removing garbage at areas across Staten Island that need a good cleaning. This announcement took place at a press conference near the corner of Front Street and Edgewater Street on Wednesday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM.
Improving the quality of life on Staten Island has been a keen focus of the Borough President, particularly keeping Staten Island’s streets and public spaces clean. Accordingly, he began the “Don’t Trash on Me” initiative several years ago, and since its inception, Borough Hall’s Litter Liaisons and their partners have taken hundreds of bags of garbage off our streets.
The recent nasty winter, hallmarked by two heavy snow storms, significantly disrupted the annual cleaning process, and now, many areas across Staten Island have suffered from the accumulation of a significant amount of trash, especially along streets and in public areas.
At the press conference, the Borough President will be joined by the Natural Resources Protective Association (NRPA) and leadership of our local Department of Transportation (DOT), NYC Parks Department and Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to announce a major cleaning effort, involving local government, organizations and residents, to herald the spring by giving Staten Island the touch-up it needs and deserves.
The scale of the cleaning will cover locations across Staten Island’s North Shore, Mid Island and South Shore regions and will take place during the morning of May 6th.
