Here are a few answers to your questions:
Q: Is this an annual event that has occurred before? For how many years?
A- This is the first time that Fr. Vincient has celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with an assembly in this format. In previous years, the feast was traditionally celebrated with a Mass.
Q-Where are the handmade instruments from that the grade schoolers will pantomime? Will they be made that day?
A- Over the last few weeks, the students have worked on these instruments. They performed with a student mariachi band to Our Lady of Guadalupe. (Photos in link)
Q- Where are the flowers from and are they of a special type significant to the celebration?
A- It is traditional to present Our Lady of Guadalupe with flowers or roses; the students presented hand-colored roses and flowers to the Blessed Mother (photo below of what the flowers looked like)
Fr. Vincent Capodanno Catholic Academy: Prayer and Technology combine to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Leading up to the celebration, students learned about Our Lady of Guadalupe through exploring a room created by the principal on MegaMinds, a virtual learning experience provided by the Alfred E. Smith grant.
The celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe will begin with prayer and the Living Altar with flowers presented by Grades 1 and 2. The story of Juan Diego will be told by the middle school students. The day will continue with grades 3 through 5 pantomiming playing of their handmade instruments for the Mariachi band.
Fr. V. Capodanno Catholic Academy offers FREE PreK-3, FREE UPK, and financial aid is available grades K-8th.

Father Vincent Capodanno Catholic Academy
Providing a Catholic Education to Staten Island Children Students at The Father Vincent Capodanno Catholic Academy receive a strong formation in the Catholic faith, excel in academics, participate in many civic activities to promote patriotism and study their role in the global community and the power that they have to make positive changes in the world. The school's diverse student population provides each child with a multi-cultural experience and a realistic template for life in today's world. Each day we honor our school patron, Father Vincent Capodanno and promote the cause for the canonization of the Medal of Honor receipient. Father Vincent Capodanno was a native Staten Islander who was killed while tending to an injured soldier, on September 4, 1967 while serving in the Vietnam War.
