Clotheslyne On-Demand Laundry Wash, Dry, Fold Service Facilitates Donations To Local Salvation Army Organizations

Editor’s note: There are a very small number of local charities, mainly churches (including Faith United Methodist and Seventh Day Adventist and Central Family Life Center on the island), that actually give the clothing they receive within the community to children and adults that need them.

We will be featuring CFLC this Friday for the work they do (including clothing drives, food pantry, and gifts for kids), and next week we’ll be covering Salvation Army’s Angel Tree donation request.  Their enrollment to receive presents is ending this Friday, and kids around the island will have gifts this holiday season due to generous donations from the local community and businesses.

Salvation Army, GoodWill, Vietnam Veterans of America, Boys and Girls Clubs, and most other large charities sell the clothes that are donated to them to a central distributor to raise funds for their programs.  After this, their clothing is sold to third parties, who resell the used items after sorting them by condition.  There are a few charities that give directly, such as Assertive Kids Foundation, Seventh Day Adventist Church (which also runs a food pantry), CFLC, and Urban Hope NYC, which also hosts toy giveaways during the holidays.  Other programs run by the Salvation Army that do give directly to the members of their community include a food pantry, soup kitchen, sit down meals and holiday dinners, as well as the Angel Tree program whose registration recently opened. So supporting the Salvation Army is a great idea, but it should be known that the clothing itself is not going to be given to local kids or adults.  It may even end up across the ocean or on a used clothing selling website.

Do the clothing donations go to any local grassroots charities? Unfortunately, much of what’s donated to the Salvation Army is resold rather than given to local community members in need due to the huge volume they receive.

Regarding our donations, customers can select a laundry pick-up for clothes donation by choosing the additional service options when selecting their laundry service. Clotheslyners will typically hold the clothes for 48 hours in case of a request to return them. From there, Clotheslyners will typically donate to a Salvation Army or a local drop-off. We partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters in Northern Nevada last year.

More about Clotheslyne:
Clotheslyne is an on-demand laundry pickup and delivery service that connects customers with local laundry professionals called “Clotheslyners.” The service allows customers to wash, dry, and fold their laundry without leaving home. Customers schedule a pickup time and leave the laundry at the doorstep at the designated time. The Clotheslyners will return the laundry washed, dried, and folded in 24 to 48 hours.

We’re helping the local economy by providing individuals in neighborhoods (like Staten Island) more options to become gig service employees and own their book of business by continually servicing customers in their area. Customers can choose a dedicated Clotheslyner with a monthly subscription if they would like to continue selecting the Clotheslyner to do their laundry.

Clotheslyne, an innovative on-demand laundry service app, is officially debuting in Staten Island. Our platform empowers residents by connecting them with community members ready to assist with their laundry needs, fostering a supportive neighborhood ecosystem. This initiative aims to invigorate the local economy by creating income opportunities. It offers a helping hand to busy parents, professionals, and anyone needing a little extra support with their daily chores.

Our recent launch has garnered enthusiastic feedback through social media (https://www.instagram.com/p/C3k6XLqOVSl/) and at our engaging live events, highlighting the community’s readiness for such a service. We hope to elevate the visibility of this launch, encouraging more Staten Island citizens to benefit from and participate in our community-focused initiative.
