Annual Resource Fair For People With Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Tomorrow Presented By Senator Andrew Lanza, JCC
SENATOR LANZA TO HOST ANNUAL SPECIAL NEEDS RESOURCE FAIR
Senator Andrew Lanza and the JCC of Staten Island are sponsoring their annual Special Needs Resource Fair: “What Every Caregiver Should Know” on Friday May 17, 2019 from 9:30a.m.-12:30p.m. There will be over seventy exhibitors in addition to roundtables discussions, seminars, and individual meetings with specialists.
Every year, hundreds of Staten Islanders attend this informative session to learn about the resources available to their loved ones.
LEARN MORE: Thanks to recent legislation that Senator Lanza supported, special identification cards are now available to people who have a medically diagnosed developmental disability. These new ID cards may be presented to law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel to aid in the communication process.
Another recent law allows for the opening of tax-free savings accounts to help people with disabilities maintain their health, independence and quality of life.
The “NY ABLE” program provides families and individuals with a secure and practical way to save and invest funds without jeopardizing their eligibility for many important disability-related benefits, including SSI and Medicaid. More information regarding these and other important programs will be available at this event.
