Storied Irish Bar, Subject Of Documentary Film “Coogan’s Way,” Gets Street Corner Co-Naming
The Irish Bar, Coogan’s Bar and Restaurant in The Bronx, closed sadly on St. Patrick’s Day, 2020, when they should have been celebrating, due to the pandemic and other pressures. Now, a street corner in Washington Heights, has been officially co-named “Coogan’s Way”
NYC DOT Commissioner Rodrgiuez joined elected officials and community leaders to celebrate on May 25th, 2022.
NYC DOT Commissioner, Ydanis Rodriguez, will be joining Council Member Carmen de la Rosa, Congressmember Adriano Espaillat, Borough President Mark Levine, State Senator Robert Jackson, Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos, Assemblymember Al Taylor, Councilmember Shaun Abreu. Coogan’s Owners & Staff to celebrate the co-naming of a street in Washington Heights.

The intersection located at 169th Street and Broadway will be named Coogan’s Way, for the legendary restaurant that closed in 2020 after serving the upper Manhattan community for over thirty years. Commissioner Rodriguez, who once represented the area in the Council, had served as the prime sponsor of the street co-naming.
