The Salvation Army Offers Childcare Lifeline to New York City Families

More New York City parents are no longer working from home, and the need for quality childcarehas never been greater.

With costs rising up to $21,000 per year – and some parts of New York seeing a 50% decrease in available childcare – too many families are struggling to find a viable option.

One lifeline to families desperate for quality childcare they can afford is The Salvation Army, which currently has over 100 openings at its five programs in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.on weekdays, the centers provide a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment for children that will help put concerned parents’ minds at ease while they go to work.

All children receive two nutritional meals and a snack every day and programs offer flexibility depending on parents’ schedules.

What’s more, The Salvation Army takes a “whole child and family” approach to providing care. Trained teachers and aids know the signs of need and can often provide warm clothing and additional nutritious food for the family as needed.

“No parents should have to choose between working to support their families and their children receiving proper care,” said Mary Nam, director of Child Care at The Salvation Army’s New York City centers.

“Our programs allow them the freedom to go back to their workplaces and ensure their children will be in a safe, healthy environment.”
