NYS Assembly Disallows Resolution For Observance Of Loyalty Day Acknowledging American Freedom
Assembly Socialists Squash Resolution Acknowledging American FreedomĀ
Editor’s note: Asm. Pirozzolo previously commented on Governor Hochul’s State of the State address.Ā Staten Islander News has also previously reported on an odd holiday that is celebrated when at the beginning of spring.Ā The President’s Day Essay Contest winners were also recently announced.Ā
Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R, C-Staten Island) was notified that he would not be allowed to present a resolution to the Assembly floor because it could possibly make some assembly members vote for something they donāt believe in.
The resolution in question would have urged the observance of Loyalty Day, a day for declaring loyalty to the United States of America and to acknowledge American history and freedoms. A display of patriotism and reverence for American freedom was allegedly squashed by the socialists in the Assembly. Below is a speech written by Pirozzolo that represents the rich history and proud past of Loyalty Day.
āLoyalty Day has a long and storied past, dating back over 100 years to 1921 when it was originally referred to as Americanization Day.
Initially declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower during the āFirst Red Scareā, Loyalty Day was created to proudly celebrate and reaffirm Americansā loyalty to the United States and commemorate the history and sacrifice behind our sacred freedoms.
President Eisenhower, Congress, and Americans at large felt that in the wake of communist and socialist ideals spreading, it was necessary to designate a day to specifically reaffirm loyalty to the United States.
The need for Loyalty Day was bolstered by concerns stemming from the October Revolution / Bolshevik coup in Russia.
Unfortunately, today, we are living within a similar political climate where anti-American sentiments and hate-fueled rhetoric have seen a meteoric rise ā in particular on some of our college campuses which are supposed to be areas of free thinking and diversity and not bastions of hate.
Just within the past few weeks, New Yorkers have witnessed the desecration of both our public and private academic institutions, in the name of, among others, anti-American protests.
At a City College in Manhattan, anti-American rioters tore Old Glory down from her flagpole and hoisted a flag sometimes seen as a symbol of a terrorist organization.
Thankfully, the NYPD quickly restored the American Flag to its rightful place and admonished the āprotestorsā, recognizing that this is America, we are Americans, and the American flag must NEVER be disrespected in such a way, especially on our soil.
Mayor Eric Adams took it a step further and lamented that it was ādespicable that schools would allow another countryās flag to fly in our countryā¦ We are not surrendering our way of life to anyone.ā He is absolutely right.
In the face of such adversity, we must stand resolute in our allegiance to the principles that define us as Americans. We must never waver in our commitment to upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and justice.
The brave men and women who have served our country in the armed forces, along with their families who have made countless sacrifices, deserve our utmost gratitude and respect.
In closing, let us remember that Loyalty Day is not just a date on the calendar, but a reminder of the spirit that holds us together as the greatest country to have ever existed. It is a call to action, urging us to defend our freedoms, honor our history, and safeguard the American Dream for our children and their children for generations to come.ā said Pirozzolo
