An allocation of $45,000 was made earlier this summer to transport campers and siblings to and from camp.
Editor’s note: This year Staten Islander News also reported on the Star Day Camp program of the Salvation Army Greater NY division. This is a free camp for low income residents that lasts about five weeks during the summer.
Staten Island, NY – Borough President Vito Fossella visited Sunrise Camp on the conclusion of their summer program to support their mission of helping children struggling with cancer. This took place at a press conference at Staten Island Academy on Thursday, August 15th at 1:30 PM.
Sunrise Camp is a Joan & Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center program which offers an opportunity to children ages 3 1/2 to 18 who are struggling with cancer to enjoy recreational activities in a supportive environment with siblings and other kids. Sunrise Camp is specially equipped to support the children with their treatment and medical needs. This year’s program began on July 1st and concludes this upcoming Thursday.
Borough President Fossella allocated $45,000 to Sunrise Camp earlier this summer to fund transportation for campers and their siblings to and from the day camp.

BP Fosella is the best BP we’ve had.
He isn’t a megalomaniac.
We had one guy in the late 1960’s who was not the favorite of most.
Fosella is 100% the opposite. He gets my vote bc he is approachable and not on a pedestal.
