Celebrate Women’s History Month with a fascinating look at the lives and legacies of extraordinary women who helped shape Staten Island.

The following was released following a different event honoring local Staten Island Women of Distinction at the annual Festa Della Dama luncheon.  The details for the March 26th event follow:

Three remarkable Women of Distinction were honored Friday by the Italian Cultural Foundation at the annual Festa Della Dama luncheon at Casa Belvedere.

Real estate icon Connie Profaci received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedicated support of Italian American organizations and community causes. Kim Leo, Casa’s culinary instructor, received a Community Service Award for her work as an advocate and philanthropist empowering neurodiverse communities. And Maria Peterson, a civic leader involved in many Staten Island organizations including the Italian Cultural Foundation, received a Community Service Award.

Each honoree received a custom cameo pin set in gold, created and donated by Raineri Jewelers. The luncheon evoked La Festa Della Donna events in Italy. It featured yellow flowers, spring dishes, and Mimosa Torta for dessert, a delicate cake made to resemble the mimosa flower that’s used to celebrate Italian women on International Women’s Day.
