Feeding the Hungry In Your Neighborhood: ShopRite’s Evergreen Plaza Staten Island Location Donates $26K In Gift Cards To Community Organizations
Editor’s note: We covered the opening of this store itself a few weeks back here. We also covered the race to help food pantries, won by Salvation Army’s Lt. Esther, whom we interviewed about their new sit-down meals program (one of the most popular video articles we have published), along with a previous donation made by Mannix Family supermarkets to other pantries for the holiday season. They have also raised $35,000 to fight hunger in their communities through their Partners in Caring programs. ShopRite is also well-known on Staten Island for their turkey giveaways once customers spend a certain amount. If you do spend the necessary amount but have no need for the turkey or vegetarian turkey roast, you can always give this away to one of the two Salvation Army locations on the island.
In celebration of the new ShopRite of Evergreen Plaza opening, the Mannix Family has donated $26,000 in ShopRite gift cards to local food pantries and community organizations to help combat food insecurity.
On Wednesday, October 1, the Mannix family presented $26,000 in ShopRite gift cards to local food pantries and community organizations that provide important resources to Staten Islanders facing food insecurity.
The donation was made in celebration of the opening of the family’s newest store, the ShopRite of Evergreen Plaza.
Organizations represented at the presentation included the Salvation Army, St. Ann’s, The Staten Island Giving Circle, Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI), New Direction Services, the Office of Assemblyman Michael Tannousis, South Shore Community Food Pantry, Great Kills Friendship Club, Our Lady of Good Counsel, Lou’s Helping Hand, St. Edward’s, Oakwood Heights Community Church, Feeding with TLC and Meals on Wheels.
