In NYC: Housing-Related Ballot Proposals Pass, Others Rejected; Senator Gillibrand Congratulates Incoming Mayor
Editor’s note: We previously reported on the outcomes of the ballot measures and what that means for the city. This description of what each of the measures would have done goes into a fair amount of detail, and the first (for an Olympic complex on state lands) and sixth (for the election for mayor to change to the presidential election year) were rejected.
Statement from Rachel Fee, Executive Director of the New York Housing Conference on Passage of Housing-Related Ballot Proposals
“Today, New Yorkers said ‘no’ to the status quo and ‘yes’ to a more affordable city by voting in favor of all four housing-related proposals on the ballot. Renters made their voices heard — marking a turning point in our city’s efforts to tackle the housing crisis. Year after year, the New York Housing Conference’s Housing Tracker Report has shown that a small subset of neighborhoods is responsible for the vast majority of the city’s affordable housing. In fact, just 10 of New York City’s 51 Council districts have built more than half of all affordable housing since 2014. The passage of Props 2, 3, 4, and 5 will make it faster, fairer, and easier to create the affordable homes our residents need and deserve. Today’s results mark a historic win for renters in every borough and will ensure more affordable housing is built in every New York City neighborhood.”

GILLIBRAND STATEMENT CONGRATULATING MAYOR-ELECT MAMDANI ON HIS ELECTION VICTORY
New York, NY – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement on the New York City mayoral election results:
“Earlier tonight, I called to congratulate Mayor-Elect Mamdani on his victory. Right now, too many New Yorkers are struggling just to get by. I am committed to working with the mayor-elect to address the affordability crisis and lower costs, ensure New York is safe for all, and protect our fundamental rights.
New York voters have fairly and freely chosen their next mayor, and the results of this election should not draw the ire of the president or the federal government. I stand ready to defend New York against any and all of the retaliation from the Trump administration.
I would urge President Trump to focus on the constituents we all serve and prioritize making their lives better, not his personal political vendettas. Our work should be about the people we serve, not partisan politics.”
