ShopRite Of Staten Island Expands Donation To Your Local Food Pantries As Part Of 18th Annual Thanksgiving Event
Editor’s note: Staten Islander News also covered this event last year. We recently covered the increasing need spurring toy, clothes, and food drives at the Central Family Life Center, along with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program opening to donors. We will have answers to more questions that we sent over in the coming days as well, so chack back for updates. In addition to asking for the photos which were received and are below, we also asked the following question. Our part is in bold, answer in italics:
Are any of the stores doing a turkey or plant-based turkey giveaway to any food pantries this year? I know the need is expected to be higher this holiday season. There are already over 300 sign-ups at the Stapleton Corps.
To answer your question, for the past few years, ShopRite has provided gift cards to Staten Island food pantries and food banks in lieu of turkeys. This approach was adopted in response to feedback from community partners, who shared that gift cards offer greater flexibility to meet the diverse needs of the families they serve.
The total donation was more than $25,000 in gift cards to the various organizations listed below who had representatives attend. They give out the gift cards to the people they serve.

- St Ann’s
