Staten Island’s Councilmember Helps Host Anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s 100th Birthday
New York City Council Member Morano hosted a special celebration marking what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday.
Editor’s note: In 2024, Marilyn Monroe’s home in Los Angeles was saved from demolition by its new owners. More than a year in the making, the event brought together senior citizens, including several residents who are older than 100 years old themselves, many of whom grew up watching Marilyn Monroe movies during her rise to international stardom. Residents will enjoy birthday cake, music from Marilyn’s era, a Marilyn Monroe look-alike, and the opportunity to share personal memories of the woman who became one of the most recognizable figures in entertainment history.
Long before today’s celebrity culture, Marilyn Monroe was a global phenomenon whose image, style, and personality captivated the world and helped define an era.
Marilyn Monroe had deep ties to New York City. She lived in Manhattan and spent considerable time in New York while married to Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio and later Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Arthur Miller. Monroe frequently enjoyed New York life and visited Staten Island during her years in the city.
