Several organizations, including the New York Foundling, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, and Humane Long Island provided Thanksgiving dinners to local families in New York and New Jersey

We previously covered Thanksgiving Turkey giveaways last year, including by Senator Gillibrand in Brooklyn, Salvation Army of Greater New York, and a PETA giveaway in 2022.

FIRST, THANKSGIVING COMES EARLY AS THE NEW YORK FOUNDLING, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE AMAZIN’ METS FOUNDATION, GIVES 500 FREE TURKEYS TO STATEN ISLANDERS

Staten Island, NY, November 19, 2024 – In collaboration with the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, The New York Foundling, the 155-year-old community partner that provides programs and opportunities for more than 30,000 people in New York and Puerto Rico, gave away 500 turkeys to Staten Island families today.

The holiday-focused giveaway, dubbed Metsgiving, was held at the Gerald Carter Center, at 230 Broad Street, on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are on Staten Island today with 500 Thanksgiving turkeys donated by the Amazin’ Mets Foundation – and gave away every one to so many deserving families. Food insecurity runs deep, even here on Staten Island. The Foundling is proud to be here today and to offer a year-round food pantry in the borough,” said Melanie Hartzog, president and CEO of The New York Foundling.

To support The New York Foundling in its mission to give children, adults and families the opportunity to reach their full potential, please donate here at NYFoundling.org.

Since its inception in 2021, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation has funded over $13 million in grants to over 180 organizations in the community, including the communities surrounding affiliate teams. Thanksgiving Turkeys for Bayonne Residents In Need

Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis donated fifty Thanksgiving turkeys for needy residents. The 2024 turkey donation program was sponsored by Lettire Construction. Twenty-five turkeys will be distributed through the St. Vincent’s Food Pantry, and the other twenty-five will be distributed through the St. Henry’s Food Pantry. City officials and representatives of Lettire Construction posed with frozen turkeys outside St. Henry’s Parish Center. Humane Long Island Provides Vegan Turkey Donations, Rescues Living Turkeys From Slaughter In Days Before Thanksgiving

The week before Thanksgiving week is one of our busiest weeks and this year is no different. I have a vegan roast giveaway with Assembly Member Harvey Epstein on the East Side today and a fundraiser on Long Island in the evening! We’re also working on rescuing turkeys from live slaughter markets ahead of the holiday and hosted a protest yesterday of wildlife exploiters potentially privatizing the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter: Animal advocates protest bid to privatize the town animal shelter at Hempstead Town Hall.

PETA also donated vegan roasts to several organizations.  Here is what they had to say:

“We did two vegan roast giveaways in the NYC area.

  • The first happened on Wednesday, Nov 20, and we teamed up with Humane Long Island and NY State Assemblyman Harvey Epstein.
  • The second happened today (Wednesday, Nov 27), and we teamed up with Humane Long Island and Rebecca Sanin, Suffolk County Legislator – District 16″

As our previous article described, Mannix Family Supermarkets (ShopRite stores on Staten Island) made a donation to local food pantries in the form of gift cards.  Tim Mannix had the following to say about these donations:

“The Mannix family donated nearly $20,000 in gift cards to local food pantries as part of their 17th annual Thanksgiving donation. That included hosting a donation event at their store and participating in another one at Borough Hall.

“In recent years, Mannix Family Supermarkets has opted to donate ShopRite gift cards to local food pantries and community organizations. Those organizations distribute the gift cards to people so they can purchase what they most need for the holiday.”
