Building upon our recent screening of Romeo & Juliet (1968) at Casa Belvedere’s Cinema Sotto Le Stelle series, this program explores a wide range of interpretations of Shakespeare’s iconic work. By experiencing Romeo & Juliet through various art forms – such as staged plays, films, ballets, operas, symphonies, and musicals – we gain a deeper appreciation for the creative powers and genius of diverse artists, including actors, singers, dancers, directors, filmmakers, and set designers. Through comparative juxtapositions of similar scenes and characters’ actions, emotions, thoughts, words, and moods, we can appreciate the timelessness and adaptability of this classic love story, including the operatic one of Shakespeare’s timeless tale!
Come to Casa Belvedere to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Verrazzano-Narrow Bridge, a special cultural program on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m, followed by an optional prix-fixe dinner with our stunning “diamond necklace” view of the bridge!
“The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is 60 Years Old!” will be led by local history expert Patricia Salmon. She will share the iconic landmark’s history, engineering marvel, and its role in connecting communities over the past six decades.
The greatest changes to Staten Island were brought about by the opening of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in 1964 (one “z” in Verrazzano back then!). Learn about who built the bridge and why, how this event was brought about, and what happened after the great colossus opened. Discover how the Italian Historical Society of America and its president, John N. LaCorte, were successful in their efforts to name the bridge after Giovanni di Verrazzano.
Invite your Brooklyn friends to attend this special occasion! Learn more and register at their website.
